On March 17, 2026, the NATIONAL UNIVERSITY of Theatre and Film “I.L. Caragiale” (UNATC) in Bucharest will award the title of Doctor Honoris Causa, the university’s highest academic distinction, to one of the most influential creators of contemporary theatre, the director and pedagogue Eugenio Barba.

🔷 By conferring the title of Doctor Honoris Causa, UNATC pays tribute to an exceptional artistic and pedagogical body of work that has decisively shaped the evolution of contemporary theatre and influenced generations of creators around the world.

🔷 Eugenio Barba’s presence in Romania is connected to a mini-season dedicated to his work, organized at TEATRUL GRIVITA 53 53 in Bucharest, where the public will have the opportunity to discover a series of performances created by the great artist.

The Doctor Honoris Causa award ceremony will take place on March 17 at 10:00, in the “Ileana Berlogea” Hall at UNATC, Matei Voievod Street 75–77.
