We are pleased to announce the publication of the second issue of the Journal of Theatre Anthropology (JTA), an annual open-access journal founded by Eugenio Barba in 2021. The issue (372 pages, 200 illustrations), entitled \u201cLearning to See\u201d, presents a large number of articles by international scholars and artists, concerning multiple horizons of practical and theoretical research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Organised around four main sections (\u201cLearning to See\u201d, \u201cFacts and Tales\u201d, \u201cReflections and Images\u201d, \u201cNews\u201d), the Journal is introduced by an editorial by Julia Varley and an essay by Eugenio Barba (From Sight to Vision: The Effects of Seeing Again and Again). In addition to new essays and testimonials, the issue brings together archival materials, publications and unpublished documents relating to the three sessions of the International School of Theatre Anthropology that took place in the second half of the 1980s (ISTA 3 – Blois-Malakoff, France, 12-26\/04\/1985, \u201cDialogue between Cultures\u201d; ISTA 4 – Holstebro, 17-22\/09\/1986, \u201cThe Female Role as Represented on the Stage in Various Cultures\u201d; ISTA 5 – Salento, Italy, 1-14\/09\/1987, “The Actor’s Tradition and the Spectator’s Identity”).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Conceived as part of a project to share knowledge of actor\u2019s techniques, the Journal is published with the support of the Barba Varley Foundation, in collaboration\u00a0with\u00a0the\u00a0International School of Theatre Anthropology (ISTA);\u00a0Odin Teatret Archives (OTA);\u00a0Living Archive Floating Islands (LAFLIS);\u00a0Centre for Theatre Laboratory Studies (CTLS),\u00a0Department of Dramaturgy Aarhus University;\u00a0Practice Research Cluster of the Centre for Communication, Cultural and Media Studies,\u00a0Queen\u00a0Margaret\u00a0University, Edinburgh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
