Troubleyn/Laboratorium continues its ‘Masters of the 21st Century’ series, welcoming international grandmasters — directors, choreographers, dancers, and actors. These masterclasses are aimed at professional performers who wish to deepen their knowledge and refine their craft.
Previous editions have featured Peter Brook, Viviane De Muynck, Emio Greco, Raimund Hoghe, Franz Marijnen, Savvas Stroumpos, Theodoros Terzopoulos, Anatoly Vasiliev and Robert Wilson. In 2026, we are honoured to welcome renowned director Eugenio Barba, working with Julia Varley, to Troubleyn/Laboratorium from May 15th to May 17th.
The masterclass will deal with the different levels of organisation in a theatre performance, and the elementary aspects of theatre anthropology, among which:
- daily and extra daily techniques;
- movement/action
- static/dynamic immobility
- energy in space and energy in time
- montage technique
- dramaturgy of the director
- dramaturgy of the actor
- the director’s perception and the spectator’s perception
APPLICATIONS

> The participation fee is 500 € (incl. 21% VAT)

> Selected candidates will receive detailed information regarding the payment as well as other practicalities.
> Candidate selection will be based on the order of application submission, with priority given to early applicants.
